The project was founded by AlanRunyan and AlexanderLimi.

PloNe 2.0 was released in April 2004.

Plone :

• is an out of the box application for community portals
• is fully customizable for intra/extranets or public sites
• has lot of insistance on usability
• is internationalized (more than 30 languages)
• has a framework to add supplementary content types
• skinnable

Plone 3.0 was released in August 2007

It is possible to integrate PloNe with ZwiKi.
