Paul Calder, along with JohnVlissides, JohnInterrante, and MarkLinton, created the InterViews toolkit, one of the first native CeePlusPlus toolkits for X Windows. He wrote doc, a lightweight-glyph-based document editor that served as a focus of analysis in the original DesignPatterns GangOfFour book.
