MarPlot is a FreeAsInBeer GIS software provided by the US EPA and the US Census Bureau.

To get Marplot

To get Maps for your area

It's available for both Windows and MacOs. It is not as full featured as a professional GIS solution (ArcInfo), but if you want a simple street map, it's better than MapQuest because:

  1. It doesn't require an internet connection.
  2. Output is more flexibile.
